Janet has worked in the nonprofit arena her entire career, holding a wide variety of positions including Communications Manager, Director of Development and Executive Director and handling budgets from under $50K to $8m. She integrates her skills in education, non-profit management, and fundraising to offer innovative solutions to align money and mission.
Janet is a Certified Nonprofit Professional and a Certified Fund Raising Executive.
Janet’s passion for social justice stems from her personal experience witnessing racism and oppression growing up in a majority Black government housing project. She stood on the periphery of racism and determined to always fight against it. After living in Taiwan and Hong Kong for seven years, twenty-five years ago, Janet married an African American man and together they’ve raised three biracial children, moving her closer to the center of racism and further igniting her determination to work for justice.
Janet’s personal and professional experience has fostered self-awareness, an understanding of cultural differences, and a passion to center the voices of those fighting for social justice.
Janet obtained an Equity & Inclusion E-Certificate from the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance in May 2018.
Janet has provided encouraging accountability to more than 250 small, early-stage and mid-size nonprofits (including many led by Leaders of Color) with varied missions, including but not limited to, racial equity, food and housing security, community organizing, education, the arts, and workforce development.
Janet empowers clients to develop best practices for donor cultivation and stewardship, donor-centric messaging and effective use of software for data analysis and multi-channel communications.
Janet offers strategic planning sessions across the country and has presented more than 20 webinars, and several on-site workshops for the Nonprofit Learning Lab and Nonprofit Leadership Alliance.
Janet’s new book is scheduled for release in November 2020.
